523 East 6th Street

Sara Farley (pictured above) was a charismatic leader of the homesteader community organization L.A.N.D. ((Local Action for Neighborhood Development). She took over 523 East 6th Street and ran a thrift shop with the help of Melody D'Arnell on the ground floor, allowing a variety of theatrical projects such as Shuttle Lab and Nuyorican Poets Café to take up residence in other parts of the building.
